Obstacles

Sometimes we have projects filled with big efforts from all departments, but for some subjective reasons can not be done no matter the hard work you pour into it. I’ve got a chance to be a part of an amazing team of young and passionate filmmakers led by a talented creative director I’ve admired for a long time. Together we were eager to create visuals inspired by the classic art of great masters trying to fit within a tight construction budget and a limited variety of decorative props that art department managed to collect from not-so-many vintage markets of Saigon.

I’d like to share with you some of the wip photos of this project.

set-02.jpg

For the very first set we aimed to create a mysterious forest, a secret garden with wild flowers and plants. An old curvy cherry tree would reflect a posture of the fairy like girl sitting on a big moss rock, around her thin layers of fog bringing a dreamy atmosphere of the place..

We used big foam board cubes to sculpt the landscape and were lucky enough to find an old dry tree just right behind the studio :)) Some plants were real, some were artificial, but we made sure everything looked good in the camera.

The hard part of the dressing for the second set was to find good vintage props for this mediaval feast. In contrast to the first set, this one should bring a warm, vibrant, rich look of paintings from 15th-16th centuries.

Although this project won’t air anytime in the future, I still belive there would be much more interesting works waiting for us ahead. And this one was a good chance for me to experiment with this art style and get to know more wonderful people.

That’s it! :)
